about Maya

Hello! I'm Maya, a senior attending Stanford Online High School. I generally like all subjects in school, but my favorite by far is math. I have been taking college-level math courses since my freshman year in high school, and even had the honor of taking classes at the University of Michigan. My main extracurricular is cello and orchestra, and I like all things musical. Up until recently I also played soccer. I also have a dog named Tiana, who I spend a lot of my free time with.

I’ve been a peer tutor since my freshman year. I have tutored for multiple science classes, including Honors Chemistry in 10th grade and Honors Physics in 11th grade. Last year, I was also nominated as a teaching assistant (essentially a more rigorous tutoring position) for two university-level math courses. This year, I am a TA for Honors Physics and a peer tutor for two math courses.

Math and science.
Experience with kids
In the past, I helped coach Photon Phun for the Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad. This event taught elementary schoolers about the science of light. Last year, I organized the event for 4th and 5th graders and helped them prepare for the light relay component of the event.
Academic Credentials
I've taken college-level math courses since my freshman year, and received A+ grades for classes at the University of Michigan. I have also written two astronomy research papers, one of which was accepted by the Journal of Double Star Observations. The other work was presented at the 246th American Astronomical Society meeting. I earned 5s on the AP Calculus BC and AP English Language tests, both of which I self-studied for.
