How do I schedule a session with you?
Currently, due to high demand, we are only taking tutoring requests from teachers at San Juan Unified School District, Twin Rivers School District, and Elk Grove Unified School District. If you are such a teacher, please email your Refugee/Newcomer team to request tutoring with us. We will get your student scheduled within 24-48 hrs of receiving a request. Once scheduled, we will send the student email reminders in their home language the morning of their tutoring session. These emails also provide the student's Zoom link. We also make personal phone calls to encourage attendance.
What ages do you work with?
Generally, we work with children in grades K-12. Although we sometimes take students recently graduated from a local HS and newly enrolled in community college.
Tell me about child safety and privacy protections.
In addition to using secure scheduling software and never sharing your information with others (see our Privacy Policy), we also record all of our Zoom sessions, meet regularly to share best practices with each other, and have a parent supervisor periodically review our work.
Are there any hidden fees or payment expectations?
Nope! Willow Way Tutoring & Enrichment is one hundred percent free for students! We are funded by grants and service agreements from school districts, so we will never charge students for payment.
Does my student need to download special software to work with you?
All of our sessions take place using Zoom, a free online video-meeting platform that enables us to work with your student using video and audio. Though no Zoom account is ever needed, the student will need to download the free Zoom software and have access to a computer with an internet connection, a working camera, and microphone. You can download Zoom for free here. Our tutors make personal phone calls to students if the students are not in their Zoom room at their expected time. If needed, the tutor can help the student set up and connect to Zoom at that time.
Will you give my student answers to homework problems?
Of course not! That would eliminate any opportunity for learning! No, instead we carefully guide the student through the problem to the answer and give hints when needed, allowing the student to reason through the issue and reach the eventual answer by themselves.
